Hidden Gems Font Design

A luxurious, abstract font family

Designed by our art director, Zane Huggins, this is the most extensive font family to be released by our studio to date. Available in two weights and two styles, with more in production, there will be a total of eight variations upon the products initial completion.

Black

The black weight of this family features stems that are 100% wider than the regular weight, and roughly 50% wider legs, but the crossbars remain the same vertical weight to increase the contrast and intensify the luxury style.

Bold

The bold weight of this family features stems that are 50% wider than the regular weight, and roughly 25% wider legs.

Bold, Oblique

The italic version is slanted at an eight degree angle, with special treatment of special characters to retain visual balance.

Regular

Hidden Gems, Regular, was vectorized in direct reference of the sketches made for the font. This weight and style took the longest to complete as it set the precedent for the entire font family to follow. Featuring high-contrast between stems and crossbars, as well as replacing the tittles and occasional crossbar with its signature gem, this is the original Hidden Gems.

Regular, Oblique

Regular, Italic is follows the eight degree slant rule just as the bold italic style does.

Final Notes

Hidden Gems was imagined and sketched using Procreate on an iPad. After being sketched and refined, it was moved to the computer where we used Glyphs to build the final product.
